Understand the EuroJackpot
(Also known as Euro Lotto, Euro Lottery, Euro Jackpot)
23th March 2012 was Euro Jackpot’s debut throughout Europe and you could play as early as the 17th March 2012
Euro Jackpot had been on it’s way for a very very long time, it has been delayed multiple times- because initially the Euro Jackpot is an alternative for the Euro Millions which is closed for new entries from countries . It was not until it was decided in Germany that they wanted to participate in the new EuroJackpot, that it became possible to make this game available for the general publication.
Eurjackpot had to have a big country like Germany with many millions of inhabitants in the Euro Jackpot. And finally after a long time, the Germans decided to take part in EuroJackpot
In addition to Germany, there are Italy, Spain, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Slovenia and Finland, and February 1th 2013 these countries were added as well Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Croatia in Euro Jackpot, however the game is in principle open to all European countries - and not limited as EuroMillions. So in principle it is possible that more than 730 million inhabitants from entire Europe can eventually play the Euro Jackpot every Friday night. This requires that each country chooses to participate, however non-participating country citizens, cannot play in EuroJackpot
The addition of the new countries on 1th of February 2013 withdrew the initial rule that the pool may only roll over 12 times. And now there is a ceiling of 90 million euros (about 670 million dollars) maintained, so the pool must be paid if it reaches that amount.
It means in a way, there is a population of nearly 170 million potential citizens right from the start, and if you remove all those under 18 years who are not allowed to play in the Euro Jackpot, there are approx. 120 million possible players.
It is expected that every week there will be approx. 50 million rows sold in EuroJackpot. A single row costs 2 euros.
Euro Jackpot winning numbers drawn in Helsinki, Finland on Friday evening, and verification of the winning rows and Euro Jackpot winning is subsequently made in Germany and Denmark.
EVERY Friday night there is a guarantee of at least 10 million euros. EVERY single week, this is guaranteed for the jackpot of 5 winning numbers and 2 bonus numbers. The deadline of last play is at 19:00 CET while numbers are drawn at 21 CET and the numbers is published right here at 23 CET
The maximum Euro Jackpot is 90 million euros, and the national companies behind Euro Jackpot decided to put the maximum at that and decided that if it exceeds this amount - then the rest of the money will traverse down the other pools.
Personally I think this good way to ensure that the pool size won’t grow too big, as I find it insane to give anyone more than 90 million euros, which I think is more than any European would need. Anyway, even 10 million euros would be more than most will need.
The way the game works: There are 50 balls from 01 to 50 and out of these 50 balls, EuroJackpot draws the 5 winning numbers. When the 5 winning numbers has been drawn there will be drawn 2 bonus number from a new pool of eight numbers from 01 to 08.

Why should you play in Euro Jackpot?
I wouldn’t say that you should, however when you consider that you can play the EuroJackpot with just 2 € - it’s not much to be part of a chance to win that much money – however admitted the chance is very slim.

Little more Facts
Euro Jackpot has under way for a long time, and the start date has long been the largest controversy therefore it has been postponed many times, because cooperation between countries would not be possible without German participation. The participating countries are Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Slovenia and Finland, and probably many more to be added.
This means that there is a total population of approximately 170 million potentially customers from young to old, but since it’s not allowed to play EuroJackpot unless you are 18+ - there is “only 120 million” potential players of Euro Jackpot.
Number of players in EuroJackpot
It is expected that every week there will be played around 50 million rows of Euro Jackpot. It is expected that around six percent of the lines played every Friday will come from Denmark.
Originally, the lottery games started in Genoa where they back in the 15th Century drew lots for five political posts among 90 names. They was obviously betting on the outcome, and this led to the idea of replacing the 90 names with 90 numbers, and thus lottery 5/90 was an reality.
What are the chances of winning in the EuroJackpot?
There are 50 Euro Jackpot balls, or numbers in the game, and from that there will be drawn the five winning numbers. Additionally two bonus winning numbers will be picked from a pool with eight numbers.
This is an chance of (50 * 49 * 48 * 47 * 46) / (5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1) = 2,118,760 which is the chance to get the first five correct numbers, and then it will be multiplied by (8 * 7) / (1 * 2) = 45 So the chance is ~ 59,325,280 to one to get the correct numbers in EuroJackpot and win the main jackpot pool. This will statistically mean that the jackpot should be paid out approximately once every five weeks. However there are infact a total of 12 prizes categories in the EuroJackpot, so the payback is great. The overall chance of winning a prize - large or small - is 1:20. There is therefore a win in an average of every 20 rows played.
